The Challenge
Having efficient business processes is a key for companies to get more value out of their resources and thereby perform better than their competition. Efficient and lean processes is however also a great way for workers to spend time on interesting and challenging task and not get fed up with bureaucracy.
For blue colored workers Mobile solutions is a great way to minimize redundant steps, paper use and get a better quality of the captured data. Dong therefore wanted to use a mobile inventory management solution in their offshore base in Esbjerg. The base services offshore oilrigs, and thus has a special process around packaging of goods into containers and shipping the containers to the rigs. The solution needed to integrate to SAP MM, and fit the process used in their offshore base in Esbjerg. Standard software solutions are quick to deploy, often cost less than custom developments and have regular update cycles – They do however never really fit the business process.
The Solution
Using the standard SAP Inventory manager mobile solution DONG got a lot of functionality out of the box. Via mobile scanners workers were quickly able to track materials, make receipts, and issue and transfer goods.
Inventory Manager is build using SAP’s Agentry framework, which ensures an easy extension and customization of the standard solution. After a short implementation period of 3 months, the needed customizations and changes were implemented. Dong now uses a standard solution that fit their process perfectly.
